Sod Calculator FAQ
Measure lawn area, convert it to pieces or pallets, and estimate USD cost.
FAQ
What does the calculator measure?+
It measures the total area of your lawn in square feet or square meters, then converts that area into the number of sod pieces and pallets you need based on the piece size and pallet size you configure. It also estimates the total cost including material, tax, and installation labor.
Can I use meters instead of feet?+
Yes. Switch the unit setting to square meters and all manual inputs, piece/pallet sizes, and totals update to match. The map measurement tool also supports both unit systems automatically.
Can I change the waste rate?+
Yes. Choose from none, 5%, 10%, or enter a custom waste percentage. The waste rate accounts for cuts, offcuts, and irregular edge trimming so you order enough sod without running short.
Are the retailer prices live?+
No. The Home Depot and Lowe's/Rona presets are editable reference values for quick planning, not live store pricing. You can overwrite any price to match your local supplier's current rates.
Can I edit the package sizes?+
Yes. All piece and pallet size fields are editable. If your supplier sells a different piece dimension or a different number of pieces per pallet, update the values and the calculator recomputes counts and costs automatically.
How accurate is the map measurement tool?+
The map measurement tool traces straight-line segments between your clicked points on the satellite view. It is accurate enough for planning and estimating but may differ slightly from a professional survey, especially on curved property lines or sloped terrain.
Does the calculator include delivery and soil preparation costs?+
Delivery fees and soil preparation costs like grading, tilling, or fertilizing are not included by default, but you can account for them by adding them to the custom labor or material price fields. The cost breakdown shows subtotals so you can see each component separately.
